1. Surface Dirt - Can You Wash UGG Boots?
Lighter
dirt can be removed with water and a mild detergent; however, typical household
detergents can fade or bleach your boot. Reform the boots into their original
shape by stuffing them with a rolled towel or newspapers. This will allow them
to keep their original shape as they dry. Dry them for at least 24 hours in a
cool, dry place as direct heat and sunlight can cause wrinkling and damage.
2. Removing Deep Stains and Excess Grime – Clean UGG
Boots
If your boots are looking worse for wear, you may have a buildup
of grime. Simply follow the directions
on the cleaning kit to gently scrub the dirt and grime. Just keep in mind that
this is natural fabric, and more frequent cleaning may also the natural appearance
of your boots to a slightly different shade. They will be noticeably cleaner
when you are finished. Do not forget to reshape the boot as they dry. Our
recommended UGG SHEEPSKIN CARE KIT can be used for UGG boots and other bear paw or suede brands.
3. Removing Grease and Oil Stains – Clean UGG Boots
We can’t promise that this is the ultimate solution to removing
grease and oil stains, because these types of stains are extremely difficulty
to lift off any suede or fabric. But we
certainly suggest giving it a try.
Simply sprinkle cornstarch, talcum powder or chalk onto the stain and
allow to sit overnight for best results. The idea is the powder acts as a sink
to absorb the stain and in theory at least, but our experience has been such
that we have had to repeat this a couple of times on a particular stain to
achieve the best effect. Once the stain is gone, consider step 1 above
to show you how to CLEAN UGG BOOTS to get the entire surface the same color.
4. Deodorizing and Odor Control
Leather
has a characteristic scent, and particularly so as they age. This issue is more
prominent with Fake UGGs #LINK# as they are typically made with non-breathable
fabrics which promote sweating and bacteria build up. Regardless of whether genuine UGGs or not,
try adding GOLD BOND FOOT POWDER product or baking powder (1 tsp) to the
interior of the boot and agitate dispersing it in the interior of the boot.
Allow this natural deodorizer to sit for 24 hours and simply shake the powder
out. This can be repeated as needed and then simply turn them
upside down and shake the powder out. Repeat weekly or as often as needed.
5. Sheepskin Safe Dyes for Fading
Help
My UGGs Have Faded! If you feel your boots have lost
their bold coloring, you can consider recoloring the shoe with a SHEEPSKIN or SUEDE DYE. That is the
beauty of a natural fabric. A suede dye safety dyes sheepskin and will not
damage the integrity of the boot. Be sure reshape the boot as above and allow
the dye to dry completely before wearing them.
6. Shrink Your UGGs - How to Stretch UGG Boots
If you have the misfortune of getting caught in the rain or have
been a bit too generous with water when cleaning, your UGGs can easily shrink. The
result is a shoe that is a bit snug; however, they can be stretched back into
shape. Try this to see exactly how to stretch UGG boots. Stuff each boot with one or two rolled
towels. Dampening these towels will cause them to swell, which will put
pressure on the interior of the boot. Allow to sit for 24 hours. You can also
try this by wearing them wet, but unless you plan to wear them until they dry,
you will need to stuff them to prevent them from shrinking again.
7. Removing Permanent Stains from UGGs
If you have harder stains such as marker, there are a couple of
really fantastic tips to try to save your UGGs.
The first method is to spray hairspray directly on the stain and allow
it to sit for a few hours. Hairspray is
known to work well with inks stains.
After a few hours, coat the stain with a few drops of dishwashing and
allow to dry. Interestingly, you do not wash out the dish washing detergent;
however, do remember to avoid direct sunlight while drying your UGGs. This method can be repeated to remove and
further traces of ink.
The second method
is something that was discovered by accident, and if there are any chemistry
enthusiasts you will certainly appreciate this.
Many inks are polar molecules and so is rubbing alcohol. A common household product, rubbing alcohol,
poured on a marble counter top literally dissolves and lifts the ink right out
of the pores before your very eyes. It simply wipes away! It works the same on
UGGs. With this method we suggest gently
blot the alcohol off the boot with a dry cloth.
If needed, rub the area with a water-dampened cloth to remove the ink
remnants, and if more cleaning is needed, they can be cleaned and reshaped to
dry as above.
8. UGG Stain & Water Repellant Protector Spray
The most effective way to protect your
investment is to treat them with a suede or SHEEPSKIN UGG PROTECTOR SPRAY. These
protectants provide a barrier protecting the fabric from moisture and minor
stains. Any number of products on the market will allow you to seal the fabric
of the sheepskin boot but not all are color-safe for leather or suede. Because
it is difficult to spot test the protectant on a discreet boot area we
recommend using a product specifically designed for genuine Australian UGG Boots.
Despite your best attempts to protect
your UGG boots, this sheepskin material will soil. Use our tips above to learn how to clean your
UGG boots. As far as protection, taking a quick moment to treat them immediately
after purchase will save you countless hours of cleaning effort and keep you
UGGs looking newer longer.
